Brandy's Book Nook: Review of Flying Away

Image
Flying Away by Caroline Gill ✩✩✩✩✩ Flying away is about a young girl who is living with her aunt and uncle after her parents die. Some people will disagree with me a little about giving it 5 stars because of the beginning. Even the author will tell you that she has people tell her that she looses them at the beginning of the book. However, it is a little strange for a reason that becomes clear later in the book. Lani gains the ability to communicate with flies, and  flees with her cousin after her aunt and uncle are killed by strangers with strange green glowing lanterns.  Who would have thought that fly magic would be so cool? I mean really this YA story will change the way you think about flies. Sure there are a couple of moments that are kind of gross, they are still flies, but Lani's new abilities to use the flies are really cool. The people with the lanterns are killing people and it's up to Lani to try and stop them while trying to save her cousin

Brandy's Book Nook - Review of Locke & Key audio book

Image
Locke & Key by  Joe Hill & Gabriel Rodriguez ✩✩✩✩✩ Let's talk audio books for a moment. Some are interesting, some are not. Some have a great story, but a bad narrator. Some are rescued by a great narrator who makes the story way more interesting than it was by itself. This is a great audio book. Since I came across it, it kind of spoiled me a little bit for other audio books. It's that interesting. First off it has sound effects. Not many do, and this one has a lot. Creaking doors, footsteps, everything is given life. This is a very good thing considering the length of this book. It took me about a week to get through it, and I had a lot of time to listen. Don't let that scare you though because this book is not boring. Second is the multiple narrators. There is a different narrator for each character which makes it easy to follow who is doing what. This is important because there is a lot going on, and danger around every corner. Stephen King
