Heidi Catherine
Publication date: January 19th 2018
Genres: Adult, Fantasy, Romance

She’s loved and lost him a hundred times across a thousand years. She can’t bear to lose him again.

Lin’s dreams are haunted by faces of people she’s never met. Unable to shake the feeling she’s lived before, she’s drawn to Reinier—a stranger whose soul is heartbreakingly familiar from a time gone by.

Reinier helps Lin unravel the mystery of her past life as Hannah, a girl who sacrificed herself for her true love, Matthew. As Lin falls hopelessly in love with Reinier, her memories of her life as Hannah sharpen and she finds herself unable to let go of Matthew.

With her heart torn in two, Lin must decide whether she should stand by Reinier’s side or track down Matthew and fight for his love. What she doesn’t know is that her decision will ripple across our troubled planet, affecting far more lives than just her own.

Winner of Romance Writers of Australia’s Emerald Pro award, The Soulweaver is a story that will change the way you see the world.

About Heide Catherine
Heidi’s debut novel, The Soulweaver, won Romance Writers of Australia’s Emerald Pro award and will be released by Crooked Cat Books on 19 Jan 2018.

Welcome to JB’s Bookworms with Brandy Mulder
Tell us about your writing career. How long have you been writing?
I wrote my first novel when I was in my twenties. It was a middle grade novel, which I mistakenly thought would be easy. Several rejections from publishers soon told me that it wasn’t as easy as I thought. Feeling discouraged, I abandoned writing until my thirties. This time I tried my hand at writing romance novels, again naively thinking it would be easy (I’m a slow learner!). After several more rejections from publishers, I finally decided to write the kind of book that I’d love to read. That was when I really fell in love with writing. I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed doing anything as much as I enjoyed writing The Soulweaver. I’m in my forties now and actually glad it took me this long to get published. I really needed the life experience (and the writing experience!) to put together a story like this.

That's a lesson for many writer's who want to write their own novels someday.
Tell us about The Soul Weaver.
The Soulweaver is about a girl who’s plagued by memories of having lived before. As these memories sharpen, she finds herself having to choose between the man she loved in her past life and the man she loves now. I’m fascinated with the concept of loving the same souls over many lifetimes and the book explores love in all its forms, not just romantic love.

It sounds wonderful.
Tell us a little about the other books you’ve published.
I’ve recently published a prequel novelette called The Moonchild. It’s free on all the major online retailers and tells the story of two of the main characters from The Soulweaver in the lifetime they lived before the story takes place. It’s a self-contained story and has been getting such lovely reviews and feedback from readers.

So many of us are intrigued by covers and titles. How did you come up with your title? The Soulweaver was originally titled ‘First Comes the Light’ but I felt that although it was appropriate, it was hard to remember and perhaps not particularly unique. So I changed the title to The Soulweaver, named after the being in the novel who weaves other souls into their new lives on Earth. It seemed an obvious choice the moment I thought of it.

What inspires your work most?
Other writers. I read a lot, as every author should, and quite often find myself dashing to my laptop to write, after being inspired by beautiful words, gripping stories or plot twists that catch me by surprise. But sometimes inspiration comes in the most surprising ways. It can be an offhanded comment somebody makes or just an idea that falls into my head seemingly from the sky. There’s inspiration everywhere if only you remember to keep your eyes open.

Who are your favorite authors, and what is it that draws you to them?
I love Liane Moriarty, Gillian Flynn, Lisa Genova, Suzanne Collins, Stephenie Myer, Kylie Ladd… I could go on! They’re all authors whose books I’ve been unable to put down. I don’t tend to read any one particular genre. If the book sounds interesting, I’ll read it!

Are you working on a new story now? If so, please share a little about it?
I’m currently working on Books 2 and 3 of The Soulweaver series, which are both due for release in 2018. They’re called The Truthseeker and The Shadowmaker and follow the lives that the main characters from The Soulweaver are re-born into next. The story takes some unexpected turns before looping back to the events of the first book and tying it all together. I’m really excited to get these stories out into the world.

What do you anticipate your release date to be?
The paperback is out now and the eBook is released on 19 January 2018.

Any stories sitting on the back-burner?
So many! I have a couple of crime novels sitting on my laptop and also a couple of middle grade novels. And an idea for another romantic fantasy novel that is making a lot of noise inside my head. I’m hoping to start writing that one a little later this year. I won’t say too much, but it will be all about the power of the spoken word.
